Who Are REX Members?

I was recently asked to write a proposal for a new REX Roundtable in Australia, and the company I’m working with hit me with a beauty of a question: “So who would be a REX member?”

It’s a ripper of a question—and it got me thinking.

See, I affectionately call our REX members REXers. They’re not just gym owners or decision makers. They’re a rare breed. Here’s how you know you’ve stumbled upon a true REXer in the outback:

  • They’ve got an unquenchable thirst to get better. No matter how many strategies we throw at them, they’re always wanting more ways to improve.
  • Their mind is open and yet not one that lets the wind blow any idea in, but then pauses to really think before saying “nah, that’s not for me” or “that’s a beauty.”
  • They want to be challenged and only by people they trust. They know their fellow REXers have walked a mile in their shoes and that they are empathetic to their needs, so they feel comfortable with the uncomfy questions!
  • They genuinely want to help others. They believe that if one club succeeds, we all rise with the tide.
  • They leave their ego at the door. It’s not about who’s got what. It’s about being real.
  • And yep, they’re just bloody good humans. No d***heads allowed. (You’ll forgive the language, but there’s really no better way to put it.)

By the way for non REXers, if you read that list and thought “that’s me” — then maybe, just maybe, you’re already a REXer at heart.  You don’t need to “apply” or “audition” (we’re not The Voice). But if your gut is saying, “I reckon this sounds like my kind of crew,” then let’s have a chat. No pressure. No pitch deck. Just a convo between two people who want to get better—for themselves and their business.

Why REX?

Running a business is one of the most demanding and isolating roles a person can take on. Your staff can’t always tell you the hard truths. Your competitors certainly won’t. And well-meaning advisors rarely have the real-world experience to challenge you the way a peer can.

REX Roundtables are built on the belief that the right peer group changes everything. Each Roundtable is structured around candor over comfort: polite talk is actively discouraged in favor of the honest, incisive exchange that actually moves businesses forward. Your chair and fellow members create a confidential, high-trust environment where the difficult conversations are held, and then acted on.

The results bear this out. In the fitness industry alone, the top 25% of REX member clubs are 50 to 100% more profitable than industry averages. That performance gap isn’t luck; it’s what happens when smart operators stop working in isolation and start working together.
